Iowa City Area HBA Parade of Homes Builders Excellence, Motto Award Winners Announced

The Greater Iowa City Area Home Builders Association (HBA) has recognized three building contractors with 2022 Iowa City Area HBA Parade of Homes Builders Excellence Awards. The awards are sponsored by West Bank. It also presented the 2nd Annual Motto Award, sponsored by Sueppel’s Siding & Remodeling, to Watts Group, Inc.

Builders Excellence Award winners are:

$500,000 – 699,999 Category: House #6 – Statler Construction, 215 Westwood Circle, Kalona

$700,000 – 899,999: House #3 – Gary Frakes Construction, 1368 Tamarack Trail, Iowa City

$900,000 + : House #4 – Hodge Construction, 3826 Palisade Place SW, Iowa City

Six new homes were entered for judging in this year’s new-construction Parade of Homes. Members from other HBAs throughout Iowa judged the homes. Criteria included exterior, interior, livability and functionality. Another five new-construction entries are Virtual Tour only.

The Motto Award is bestowed to one builder or remodeler that best exemplifies the Iowa City Area HBA adage, “members do business with members” and goes to the contractor using the highest percentage of Iowa City Area HBA members on their parade entry. Watts Group won by .06 percent with 77.42 percent member subcontractors. The honor aims to encourage members to use goods and services offered by fellow member companies.

The 55th Iowa City Area HBA Parade of Homes started June 4 and continues today and Thursday, June 9 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, June 12 between Noon and 5 p.m. It offers a look at 11 total homes. Tickets good for the entire parade cost $10 and can be purchased at any parade home.

More details may be found on the parade website, www.iowacityhomes.thegazette.com, and the Iowa City Parade of Homes App, sponsored by CBI Bank & Trust. The 360-degree Virtual Tour, on which all homes will appear after the parade, is accessible from the website and app. Patrons may also vote for the People’s Choice Award in the categories of kitchen, bathroom, interior design, landscaping and overall. The overall winner will be featured on the 2023 Parade of Homes guidebook cover.

The Parade of Homes, presented by Hills Bank and Urban Acres Real Estate and put on by the Iowa City Area HBA, is a chance to gather ideas and inspiration for an upcoming home project; learn about the latest techniques and trends in homebuilding and renovation; or simply be wowed by fabulous craftsmanship.
