A
beautifully-landscaped yard is a wonderful asset, but not
if you can’t enjoy it from the comfort of your home.
This homeowner was looking for a way to not only increase
the size of the kitchen area, but to also have a more open
view of the picturesque backyard. The homeowner approached
Magruder Construction after seeing one of
their projects on last year’s Remodelors Parade.
What seemed like a textbook addition became more complicated
because of an oversized one-stall garage that sat approximately
8 ft. behind the house. “In order to do a 12 ft. addition,
we needed to move the garage,” says Doug Magruder of
Magruder Construction. Magruder and his crew relocated
the garage further back on the lot allowing for the addition
to the back of the house.
The
original kitchen was a 12 ft. square with a cramped eating
area and only a small window looking out on the back yard.
The newly renovated kitchen flows easily into the 12 ft. x
21 ft. addition which functions as a sunroom and an eating
area. “It’s a very bright, sunny space,”
Magruder says.
The kitchen features new cabinets, countertops and new oak
floors. It also incorporates a butcher block table that the
homeowner had owned for years as a small island in the center
of the kitchen.
The addition includes a covered porch, plenty of space for
family dinners and large 5 ft. window that frame the beautiful
backyard.
