Some
times you know you need a change, but you aren’t sure
what to do. That was the case with these homeowners.
“The client had some very good ideas, but did not know
how to implement them,” says Donna Hamm of Hamm’s
Home Interiors. “We worked as a team through the interior
design process.”
Hamm and her staff were able to improve the efficiency and
increase the apparent size of this kitchen without adding
square feet to this 1967 split-foyer home. They accomplished
those goals by lightening the color palette, widening the
doorway to the dining room and replacing the original job-built
cabinets with new cabinets that maximized space in this small
kitchen. “The light-colored floor and cabinets visually
expand the space,” says Hamm, “and the roll-out
shelves and the creation of a baking center and message center
increase the efficiency of the kitchen and reduce clutter.”
To
add visual interest and update the appearance of the kitchen,
the owners selected two door styles for their cabinets, used
bronze hardware and plumbing fixtures, and installed new flooring.
The bronze highlights and warm browns in the decorative listello
tiles on the backsplash add sophistication and warmth to this
kitchen.
With a new updated look and several convenience features,
this kitchen will surely be the heart of this home for years
to come.
