This
home was originally built as a four-square in the 1920s. A
three-story addition had been added in 1996. Ten years later,
the homeowners wanted to add a new outdoor living space.
What may have seemed like a simple project was made more difficult
by needing to meet the requirements not only of the homeowners,
but also the Historic Preservation Commission and Iowa City's
building inspections department. Mark Anderson Remodeling
was up to the task, maintaining the historic integrity of
the house while giving the homeowners a very livable space.
The new addition was designed to match an original porch by
incorporating several arch-top windows and large fluted columns.
The addition also has a pebble dash stucco foundation that
matches the home's original foundation.
Mark Anderson Remodeling worked with the homeowners to address
every detail, both large and small. You'll appreciate the
addition's black and white checkerboard tile floor that matches
the flooring in the existing mudroom. The addition also has
an abundance of custom moldings and millwork. "We matched
every detail we could," Anderson says.
The
addition increases the home's curb appeal on the outside and
gives the homeowners a much larger living space on the inside.
Job well done.
